The Spectacular Southwest

Trip Duration: 10 Days

Start/end: Las Vegas, NV

Total Driving Distance: 1,009 Miles

Summary: This trip starts and ends in Las Vegas, which makes it easy (and reletively inexpensive) to fly in and out of.  The trip visits three National Parks: Zion, Bryce, and the Grand Canyon.  The interary also includes a visit to Monument Valley, including "four corners", the only place in the U.S where you can stand in four states at once (Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah)

Day 1 & 2- Arrive in Las Vegas, you can either stay at a casino hotel on the strip (I'd recommend the Flamingo Hilton, or Harrah's for value and location), or you can stay at any hotel off the strip.  There are lots of ways to spend your day here, shopping at the Forum Shops at Ceasars' Palace, eating at the many wonderful restaurants, casino buffets (best value: Harrah's)   Kids will enjoy the roller coaster at New York / New York.

Day 3 - Depart for Zion National Park, enjoy the spectacular canyons, you can also go for hikes. (166 miles - 3 hours 16 minutes).  Overnight recommendation: Zion Lodge or Best Western Zion Park Inn

Day 4 - Drive to Bryce Canyon.  The drive alone is special, and one of the most beautiful drives in the U.S.A.  Bryce Canyon defies description, with its amazingrock spires of brown, red, and orange. (115 miles - 3 hours 15 minutes).  Overnight recommendation: Best Western Ruby's Inn or Bryce Canyon Lodge

Day 5 - Drive to Monument Valley.  This intantly recongnizable area has been used as a background for countless movies.   (274 miles - 7 hours).  Tonight overnight at Goulding's Trading Post & Lodge in Monument Valley.

Day 6 - Enjoy Monument Valley.  recommend taking a guided Jeep tour provided by local Navajo people.  eat at local Navajo reaturant. Overnight in Monument Valley.

Day 7 - Drive to the Grand Canyon.  What can we say about the Grand Canyon.  One of the great natural wonders of the world.  We suggest that you stay in the National Park, at one of the lodges, for the best time to see the canyon in all it's splendor is at sunset and sunrise.  The Bright Angel Lodge is basic, but affordable, and perfectly located.  (176 miles - 4 hours 33 minutes)

Day 8 - Grand Canyon - Spend the day hiking, viewing the canyon from the newest viewing platform - the Skywalk, or you can take a helicoptor ride over the canyon, go rafting, or just wanter around and enjoy the limitless views, vistas, and photo opportunities.

Day 9 - Drive to Las Vegas.  Stop at Hoover Dam, tour Hoover Dam.  (278 miles - 5 hours 39 minutes).  Overnight in Las vegas.

Day 10 - Depart Las Vegas.
